December Sit and Sew Day

Sunday, 12th December
10am – 5pm

Are you coming? It’ll be our last one for 2010. I know this is such a busy time for people, but imagine, in all the goings on, you can have a few hours of quiet, just to yourself, playing with fabric, chatting to like-minded fabric addicts and quilting groupies, and it’ll only cost you $5-10! (depending on number attending)

New images from November's Sit and Sew Day

Hi everyone,

I’ve just uploaded the images from our last fabulous Sit and Sew Day to the Flickr Group Pool. You can click on the Gallery tab above to see them, or go the Flickr directly.

We again had a really lovely day. Sitting and sewing, meeting our newest members (including my daughter Gitta), chatting, laughing, talking about life, the universe and everything, and having a generally great time.

Here are a couple of snaps from the album to colour our home page…

The Committee will be sending out our very first newsletter to members of the Forum, so be on the lookout for that over the next few weeks. It will include all kinds of great info like next year’s dates (ah, yes.. locked in dates!), exciting details about our new venue, upcoming activities, and our end of year “do” at our last Sit and Sew Day in December. Make sure you’re a Forum member so you don’t miss it!

Happy stitching!

xx

The New Forum – registrations

Hi everyone,

If you are struggling to get into the new Forum either because you cannot remember your username exactly as you created it for the old forum, or because something else isn’t working for you, here’s what you should do.

Email me at admin [at] melbournemodernquiltguild [dot] com and I will email you back quickly with your username and password so you can login, and then of course, head over to your profile to change your password.

Thanks,
xx
Helene

PS. ALL forum conversatons have been copied and pasted into the new Forum, so none of those are lost. However, any private conversations and messages ARE lost. I have been working with technical support for the past couple of days to try to retrieve these, but in the end, they weren’t able to do anything. My apologies to those of you who had critical information lost.

Another fabulous Sit and Sew Day

I love our sewing days. We had such a great time. We laughed, we sewed, we laughed some more, … You get the gist of it. If you were there, thanks for a truly great day. If you weren’t there, we missed you. Go to our Gallery or to our Flickr site to see pictures of the “show and tell” session we had in the morning. Please come if you can to our next Sit and Sew Day in November. Don’t worry about the kids, they’ll be fine. Hubby too. And the dog. The laundry will all be done and folded for you by the time you get home, and dinner will be cooked and served as you walk in the door. Oh, and your boss says you can have the day off, he’ll do your shift for you, and your uni professor says not to worry, quilting is the perfect research for your thesis. So really, there’s no reason not to come. We look forward to seeing you on Sunday, 14th November.

Speaking of which, we’ve had to change from Saturday to Sunday. The issue we have that has us change dates so often is that we can only use the venue at Engineers Australia when Adele can be there to open. When she can’t come, we can’t get into the building, so unfortunately, for now, that’s how it is .

We are actively looking into finding other venues, and we’ll let you know as soon as we find somewhere suitable. In the meantime, thank you for your understanding with what we know is not really terribly workable, and we apologize deeply if it really messes things up for you as far as attending goes.

New photos are up from our fantastic September Sit and Sew Day

I tell you what! I’m again so inspired by the work that our members are doing. Check out the slideshows on the Gallery page, or go to our Flickr site to view the photos there.

October Meeting – CHANGE OF DATE

Hi everyone,

Due to mittigating circumstances (Adele is going on a fabulous trip overseas with her mum and won’t be able to open up for us at Engineers Australia, and the fact that I also can’t be there at all on Sunday), we’re going to change the October Sit and Sew day from Sunday 10th October to Saturday 9th October. Please update your calendars, and remember to register for the event so we know you’ll be coming. We really apologize if this messes anyone’s plans up, and we hope to see you then. (Of course, also looking forward to seeing you first tomorrow, ie. Saturday 11th Sep.)

Woohoo! Flickr is on MMQG!

I finally worked out how to get all our Flickr images on here as a slideshow. I know, I feel like a ning-nong because it’s so very, very, very, very, very easy and really, really, really straightforward to do. I’ve currently got a slideshow happening on our Gallery page (see tab above). Now that I know how to do this, I’m going to get really creative and see if I can add it to the sidebar or as a sticky post or widget right here on our home page.

Welcome to the Melbourne Modern Quilt Guild Blog!

Hi everyone,

I’m so excited to see you here. Finally. Our Ning site will be deactivated on Wednesday, so all activity will cease over there, and begin here.

It’s been quite a process, getting our new home created, customized sufficiently, and set up enough so that we could open it up to you. It’s still very much a work-in-progress, so you’ll find over the next few days, weeks, and even months, that the look will change, new things will get added and expanded, and we’ll keep developing the site to make it as robust and rich with content and options as possible for you.

If this is your first time on this site, and you’d like to become a member here, I recommend you begin by clicking on the “Membership” tab on the navigation bar above. Here you’ll find information on how to apply for membership to the Guild.

If you have a question that you’d like to ask, please contact us.

xx
Helene
