Mini Quilt Swap
| June 6, 2011 | Posted by MMQG under Swaps |
I’m excited to announce that sign-ups are open for our next swap – a Mini Quilt (a.k.a. wall hanging/mini doll quilt) Swap!
You know how Mini Quilts are all the rage now? Everyone’s making them! So we decided to have our second swap for the year be a Mini Quilt Swap! In this swap, you will make a Mini Quilt that will measure somewhere from 10″ to 18″ square, or any shape or size in-between. This is a great opportunity to try a new technique or style, without the commitment to making a full-sized quilt. As mini quilts are a little more complicated than the items we have previously swapped, you will have three whole months to make your Mini Quilt.
Sign-ups are open until Saturday, 11th June, so head on over to the Forum quickly to get more information and sign up!
Some examples to give you an idea of what we’re talking about
We’re buzzing with activity!

Hi everyone,
We have SO much to tell you! By now, I’m guessing you’ll have read our Newsletter. Not on our Newsletter list? Contact us to right that wrong immediately!
Gosh! What do I tell you about first??? So, in no particular order, here’s the latest news…
NEXT SIT AND SEW DAY
Our next SASD is on Sunday 20th February, in the second of our new locations – South Melbourne Community Centre. Don’t miss it! Click here for details.
Trading Table
NEW! At every SASD from now on, you’ll be able to sell, lend, swap or giveaway your fabrics, books, patterns etc! Just bring them along and pop them on the special Trading Table.
All items must be clearly labelled with your name & detailed description of contents, and selling price. (eg. please use this book & pass on to another member)
All items remaining at the end of the day are to be claimed back.
Speakers
We’re spicing up our Sit and Sew Days with 1/2 hour Special Speaker Spots! At 11:30am, we ‘re hoping to have a speaker for each month to contribute their knowledge and expertise to the group. We’re inviting modern quilt fabric store owners to come, with goodies from their shop in tow that will be available to you for purchase, and we’re looking for those special people within our membership who have talents they can share with us. If you’re one of those people, and you’d love to book your spot, please do get in touch with us! April is already taken by the wonderful Jenny from Amitié.

Name-Badge Swap
| January 17, 2011 | Posted by MMQG under Swaps |
Our first swap, a Name-Badge Swap, was held back in July 2010. It was a huge success. Sixteen members took part in the swap, and everyone had their badges made in time, which meant that everyone received their badges on time!
There weren’t many requirements for the swap – the badge needed to be less than 9cm in size, have a fastening on the back, and the recipient’s name needed to stand out clearly. Other than that, there had to be some kind of patchwork or quilting in the construction and be “modern” in theme. We know it’s been awhile since this swap was held, but we never showed you the results! So, here they are. Just click on the slide show arrow below to see our fabulous badges.
I think you’ll agree that everyone ended up with a beautiful name badge! If you’re jealous that you don’t have one, don’t worry, plenty of people missed out so we will be organising another swap in the future.
